About Us

Peter H. Karlen, founder of Neonym Corporation and its principal naming professional, practiced intellectual property law for over 25 years, including art, literary, and entertainment law, and the law of trademarks, copyrights, and moral rights, with a specialty in trademark law. As a lawyer he was "AV" rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He was also concurrently active for 18 years in law school teaching both in the USA and UK, where he taught courses on art, entertainment, and intellectual property law.

Mr. Karlen is the author of over 325 trade and academic publications in the areas of aesthetics and art, publishing, and intellectual property law. Most relevantly, he wrote and compiled The Art of Naming: NEONYM Creative Guide to Selecting Names and Trademarks, perhaps the most comprehensive book on trademark selection. In 1999 he started providing NEONYM naming and trademark selection services, and today he is dedicated exclusively to the creative side of the naming business.

Mr. Karlen has served clients in a wide range of industries, trades, and professions, including publishing, entertainment, art, apparel, nutrition, health/medical, physical fitness, personal development, spiritual disciplines, education, computer software, and other technical fields. He has been listed in numerous editions of Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in American Art.  He lives and works in La Jolla, California.

"Naming is a process of linguistic distillation. Unlike the literary author, the trademark professional is not using thousands of words but rather reflecting brand concepts, values, and goals often with only a single word." — Peter H. Karlen
